FAQ

COMMON QUESTIONS

WHEN SHOULD I HAVE MY CAR’S BRAKE PADS REPLACED?

We always encourage our customers to keep an eye out for warning signs of weak or old brake systems since this can be dangerous to their safety and the safety of others on the road. While there is no clear cut schedule for brake pad replacement, you can listen carefully for sounds and signs that it may be time to service your vehicles brake system. We do recommend that you have your vehicle’s tires rotated at least once every six months or so; during that rotation service, one of our mechanics will also check the strength and thickness of your brake pads and advise you on their status from there.

MY CAR’S “CHECK ENGINE” LIGHT HAS COME ON. WHAT DOES THAT MEAN?

There are a number of reasons that your service light has illuminated. The purpose of the light is to alert you of required maintenance or service even though your car may seem to run fine. We recommend that you bring your car in to our shop so that we can do a vehicle inspection to determine the reason for the light. It could be anything from a failure to reset the light by the previous mechanic to a serious servicing issue.

WHEN SHOULD I GET MY OIL CHANGED?

It is recommended that you have your oil filter changed after driving 3,000-5,000 miles since your last oil change. You can also find recommendations specific to your vehicle in the owner’s manual.

WHAT SHOULD I DO IF MY VEHICLE IS OVERHEATING?

If your car is overheating, it can be a very serious issue. Letting it overheat for too long can potentially cause permanent damage to your engine. As soon as it is safe, pull over to the side of the road and turn your car off. While you may feel led to check the coolant fluid, the hot substance can spray out and cause severe burns. Wait until a tow truck comes and take your vehicle to the best auto shop in town.

HOW DO I KNOW IF MY CAR NEEDS A TUNE UP?

One thing you may start to notice if your car is in need of a tune up is that your average gas mileage decreases. This is a good indicator of the status of your car, which is why it is recommended that you gauge your car’s gas mileage regularly. Another indication could simply be that your car begins running rough and your “check engine” light comes on. You can also check your car’s owner’s manual for information about how often the recommended tune-up is for your particular model.
